Sokoban
Sokoban is the patient player's puzzle. You push crates and never pull them, so every move is really a decision about where to stand — and a room that looked stuck opens the moment you spot the square you were missing. Free in your browser, and undo goes back as far as you like.

Why play Sokoban?
Sokoban is the purest planning puzzle there is. A crate goes only where you push it from behind, so before you move anything you are working out where you will need to stand — and that turns a small room into a question with a real answer. Nothing is hidden and nothing is random: every level here has been solved exhaustively, so the route exists and finding it is entirely up to you.
JuJu keeps it patient. Undo goes back as far as you like and Restart lays the room out fresh, so a room you have painted yourself into costs a moment rather than a run. There is no clock and no score to chase — a level is finished when every crate is home, and the shortest known route is there afterwards if you want something to aim at. Where you got to is kept on your own device.
Frequently asked questions
Is this Sokoban free to play online?
Yes. All thirty levels are free in your browser — no ads, no account, nothing to download or install. Your progress stays on your own device.
How do you play Sokoban?
Walk into a crate to push it one square, and keep pushing until every crate stands on a goal. The square beyond the crate has to be empty, crates cannot be pulled, and one push moves one crate — so the whole game is working out where you need to stand and in what order to move things.
What happens if a crate gets pushed into a corner?
A crate in a corner that is not a goal stays there, and play carries on as normal. Undo takes back as many moves as you like and Restart lays the room out fresh, so it costs you a moment rather than the level.
How many Sokoban levels are there?
Thirty, arranged in six chapters that open with two guided lessons and finish with a six-crate room. Every one is hand-made and every one has been solved exhaustively, so each has a known shortest route.
Is there a timer in Sokoban?
No. Nothing here is timed and there is no score to beat. Once a level is cleared you are shown the shortest known route in pushes and steps, which is there to aim at if you want it.
What does Sokoban mean?
It is Japanese for “warehouse keeper”, which is the job: the crates are stock and the goals are where the stock belongs. The game was published in 1982 and the rules have not needed changing since.
