How to use it

  1. Type a title, then paste your words — one per line, or separated by commas.
  2. Pick a grid size and how tricky the directions should be: across and down is easiest, backwards is hardest.
  3. Turn on large print if it is for young children or for anyone who finds small type hard work.
  4. Press Make my word search, then Print. Tick the answer key box first if you want the solution on a second page.

Why this one

Most word search makers hand you a PDF to download, ask you to make an account first, or stamp their logo across the page. This one runs entirely in your browser: your words never leave your device, there is nothing to install, and pressing Print gives you the sheet exactly as you see it.

The large-print option is there because a lot of these puzzles end up in classrooms and care homes, where small grey type is the difference between a puzzle someone enjoys and one they give up on. Bigger letters, wider cells, high contrast — and the answer key stays off the page unless you ask for it.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really free?

Yes — free to use, with no account, no sign-up and no limit on how many puzzles you make. There are no ads on this site.

Do I get a PDF?

No, and you do not need one. The puzzle prints straight from your browser, so you can send it to a printer or use your browser’s “Save as PDF” option if you want a file.

Can I print an answer key?

Yes. Tick the answer key box and the solution prints on a second page, with the hidden words highlighted. It is off by default so you can hand out the puzzle first.

How many words can I use?

As many as fit. If a word is too long for the grid, or the grid runs out of room, the tool tells you exactly which words it could not place so you can shorten the list or choose a bigger grid.

Can I use the puzzles in my classroom or care home?

Yes — print and hand out as many copies as you like. The small credit line at the bottom can be turned off with a checkbox if you would rather it was not there.
