The clues are plain descriptions with the number of letters beside them, not puns or wordplay, so you can start without having done a crossword before, and each puzzle has three hints for the times a square won’t come.

Tap a square or a clue, then type the answer. Tap the same square again, or the clue above the board, to switch between Across and Down. A word is checked as soon as its last square is filled: right, it turns green and stays; wrong, the letters that don’t fit turn red for you to fix.
