Trivia games
Trivia for people who would rather work it out than guess. You hold one card, and the line holds the rest in order. Slot yours into the gap where you think it belongs and see if it fits right in. You won’t know every date. You don’t need to: what you know places most of them.

Why play these trivia games
Every deck is built so that some of its order surprises you: the card you were sure came first often turns out to come later. Unlike a multiple-choice quiz, there are no options to pick between; each answer is a place in the line, worked out from the cards around it. Every card you place leaves you knowing one more thing, and gives the next card more to go on.
The answers are checked. Every year and number on a card was found in at least two different sources, and two cards only share a deck when the gap between them is wider than the sources disagree, so the order you learn is the real one. Three slips and the deck shuffles for another go, and the decks you clear are saved in this browser.
Frequently asked questions
How do you play Fits Right In?
You hold one card, and there is a line of cards in order: earliest at the top, or smallest first. Drag your card into the gap where you think it belongs, or tap the gap. Right, and the card shows its year or number. Wrong, and it slides to where it really goes.
Do I need to know the exact dates?
No. You only need to judge whether something came before or after the cards already on the line. Every card you place shows its value, which gives you more to go on for the next one.
What happens if I get one wrong?
The card moves to its right place and you lose one of three chances. After three slips the deck is shuffled and you start it again, and the cards you have already seen will be easier the second time.
How do you know the answers are right?
Every value on a card was checked against at least two different sources, and two cards only share a deck when the gap between them is wider than the sources disagree. Where an age or a height is only an estimate, the card says “about”.
How is this different from a multiple-choice trivia quiz?
There are no answers to choose from. Each card goes into a gap in the line, so you reason out where it belongs from the cards on either side of it, rather than guessing between four options.
How do I get to the next deck?
Clearing a deck opens the next one, and the decks you have cleared stay open. Your progress is saved in this browser.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. It runs in the browser on phones, tablets and computers, with nothing to install. Drag the card with your finger, or tap the gap you want.
