How to play

  1. Choose a computer — Easy, Hard or Master — and whether you go first or second. Black always goes first.
  2. Click a point where two lines cross to place your stone. On a phone, tap once to pick the point and again to place it.
  3. Surround the computer’s stones so they have no empty point beside them, and they are captured.
  4. The game ends by itself once nothing left on the board can change, or when both sides pass in a row. The board is then counted — stones plus surrounded empty points, with 7.5 to white — and the bigger total wins.

What it trains

  • Reading ahead on every move: which stones can be cut off, which groups are safe, and where the board is still open.
  • Three computers to choose from: Easy to learn on, Hard that reads thousands of games ahead, and Master, which reads about three times as many.
  • Every stone has a soft sound of its own, and one button turns the sound off.

Play Go online in your browser against the computer, on a 9 × 9 wooden board, or 13 × 13 against Master. Take turns placing black and white stones where the lines cross; a stone or group you surround so it has no empty point beside it is captured. Once the board is settled, the bigger area wins — your stones on the board plus the empty points you surround, with 7.5 to white for going second. Choose whether you go first with black or second with white, and choose the computer: Easy, Hard or Master.
