How to play

  1. Tap a tile in the grid up top: it goes straight into your basket.
  2. Tap a stack’s front tile: it slides down the snowy roof into the basket, and the tile behind it turns over.
  3. Two alike, one on the other in the basket, clear at once.
  4. A tile with no twin under it waits in the basket. Only the one on top can be paired, so send its twin before you add another.
  5. The basket holds four. If a fourth tile lands without clearing, the level comes back, and from level 2 on its tiles are in new places.
  6. Every grid tile is in view the whole time: keep some of them for the moment nothing in the stacks fits.
  7. An iced tile, or an iced stack, can’t be sent until the number on its ice has counted down: every tile you send counts it down by one.
  8. A lantern waits in some stacks. Send it and all the ice melts; it takes no place in the basket.
  9. A snowdrift on a roof holds a tile from the stack above it. The next tile from that stack knocks it into the basket and stays in its place, and the last tile of the stack brings it in.
  10. Two tiles tied with a ribbon go into the basket together: the one you tap first, then its partner.
  11. A sealed tile or stack shows a small tile on its seal. It opens once a pair of that tile has cleared in the basket.
  12. A gate closes one of two stacks side by side. Every tile you send, from anywhere, swings it across to the other one.
  13. Every level starts with two hints, two undos and one refresh. Hint rings a tile worth sending, Undo takes back the last tile you sent, and Refresh deals the tiles still on the board into new places, all but lanterns and sealed tiles.
  14. Clear every tile to finish the level.

What it trains

  • No clock and no move limit: there is time to look over the grid and the stacks before each tile you send.
  • What is behind each stack’s front tile changes every round, so a level is worked out each time, not remembered.
  • Two hints, two undos and a refresh in every level, for the tile you wish you had kept.
  • A tune the tiles play along to, with a switch for the music and another for the sound effects.

Play Mahjong Snowlight in your browser: a winter mahjong tile pair puzzle. Up top, three rows of tiles lie face up; under them, eight stacks show only their front tile. Tap a grid tile and it goes straight into the basket; tap a stack’s front tile and it slides down a snowy roof into the basket while the one behind it turns over. Two alike, one on the other, clear, and the basket holds only four, so the tiles in view are worth keeping for the moment nothing else fits.
